Preservation Park Engagement Session | Aaron & Ruth | Thompson’s Station, TN
There’s something really special about engagement sessions with couples who are fully, unapologetically themselves — and Aaron and Ruth are exactly that.
I met these two at a wedding show in Nashville back in May, and we hit it off immediately. Within minutes, I knew they were my kind of people: easygoing, thoughtful, and clearly best friends. They booked right there at the show, and I’ve been looking forward to their engagement session ever since.
From the West to the South (With Love)
Aaron and Ruth met in college, even though both of them originally come from out west. Ruth grew up in Wyoming, and Aaron was an army brat, which means he grew up everywhere. Life eventually brought them to Huntsville, Alabama, where they now live and work.
Ruth recently graduated with her master’s degree in civil engineering, while Aaron is in metallurgy and aerospace engineering. Basically — they’re both wildly impressive humans, but incredibly down-to-earth at the same time.
They’re also planning a destination wedding next October at Black Canyon Inn in Estes Park, Colorado, which could not fit them better.
Why Preservation Park Is Such a Hidden Gem
We met up on the morning of October 25, 2025 at Preservation Park in Thompson’s Station, Tennessee — one of those locations that feels peaceful and tucked away, yet offers so much variety.
We started at the bottom of the hill, easing into the session with some relaxed portraits surrounded by trees and early fall color. From there, we slowly worked our way up the hill, letting the session unfold naturally as we went.
At the top, you’re rewarded with sweeping views of rolling Tennessee hills — the kind of view that feels calm, expansive, and timeless. It’s especially beautiful in the fall, and this day could not have been more perfect.
A Fall Morning Done Right
The weather was crisp but comfortable, the light was soft, and the leaves were just starting to shift into those warm autumn tones. It was one of those mornings that makes you forget you’re “working” at all.
Aaron and Ruth were so fun to photograph — laughing, moving, joking with each other, and never once feeling stiff or posed. They weren’t afraid to be playful or lean into the moment, which always makes for the best photos.
These are the sessions where everything just flows.
Engagement Photos That Feel Like You
One of the things I loved most about this session is how true it felt to who Aaron and Ruth are. There was no pressure to perform or be anything other than themselves — just two people who clearly love being together.
That’s always my goal with engagement sessions: creating space for you to relax, connect, and walk away with images that actually feel like your relationship.
Planning a Nashville Engagement Session?
Preservation Park is a fantastic option if you’re looking for:
Rolling hills and scenic overlooks
A peaceful, natural setting
Variety within a short walk
A location that feels timeless and not overly busy
And if you’re planning your wedding somewhere else (like Aaron and Ruth are!), engagement sessions are such a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera and create meaningful photos for your home.
